How long does it take to find a vanity address?
It depends on three things: how many characters you want, whether case has to match and which network you use.
This table shows the time for a 50% chance of finding a match, with case matching off, on a recent computer. These are estimates, and your speed may differ.
| Network / Characters | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ethereum | under 1 sec | under 1 sec | 2 sec | 37 sec | 10 min |
| Bitcoin bc1q | under 1 sec | 8 sec | 4 min | 2 hr | 3 days |
| TRON | under 1 sec | 5 sec | 2 min | 1 hr | 1 day |
| Solana | 2 sec | 47 sec | 23 min | 11 hr | 13 days |
| TON | 4 min | 2 hr | 3 days | 92 days | 8 yrs |
Why each character costs so much
Every character has to match by chance. Ethereum addresses use 16 different characters, so one more character takes 16 times longer. Bitcoin bc1q addresses use 32, and other Base58 addresses use 58, or about 29 with case matching off.
Why the time isn't exact
Each address is a new try, and time already spent doesn't bring the result closer. A search can end in the first second or take several times longer than the estimate.
How to go faster
- Use a shorter word. Removing one character helps more than anything else
- Turn off case matching
- Use more CPU threads, if your computer stays usable
- Choose Ethereum if you need a long word. It has the fastest search here
